  • Gin · 2 years ago
rarw XD alien? ;p doesnt that make me one too *O*
  • sweat · 2 years ago
eh who's my third fav blogger! don't tell me it's ****** wtf hahaa
  • Artificially Timtam · 2 years ago
is it robot vibes or just growing up or just meeting more people who understand and like your weirdness?

growing up in private school is like growing up in a really small bubble imo. there's only space for one alien sometimes.
  • entwined · 2 years ago
hahaha i'd never have expected that you had such an "interesting" school life. anyway, about getting robot vibes now, i don't think you should worry about it. it could just be you changing, so in essence, you're still true to yourself. you don't have to always be an alien to feel proud of your individuality.

heroes is interesting what! peter is so hawt now! *swoons*
  • sieutheng · 2 years ago
yala so far season 2 of heroes is quite boring. bleh.
  • chris · 2 years ago
Hello there I just wan to say tat I have been reading your blog for quite some time now and I have always find your writing really funny and witty and at times really thought provoking and touching.
Getting the robot vibes I guess is just part and parcel of growing up and maturing, we get responsibilities that we cant shove aside anymore and all that. We are neither aliens nor robots, just human. Keep up the good work :)
  • Jeff from LA · 2 years ago
I'm glad you're coming to America for college, because now you don't need to be an alien in a robot world. High school is rough, but college is a place where you can really explore your individuality.

I lived in Asia for a couple of years after college (graduating from college at 18 does give you some extra time to travel), and I really was shocked to find out how quiet and submissive many HS students in Asia were. They seemed scared to ask questions, scared to confront the teacher if he/she was wrong, scared to be different at all. I don't blame the students for this at all. I blame the educational system that forces the students to become conformists and that hinders them from developing new thoughts and ideas.

I am so happy that I didn't grow up in Asia because I would not have been able to develop academically. I love to challenge everything, every idea, every concept. I used to rebel against authority constantly. However, here, that contrarian nature had a place. It is what got me into law school, and what makes me an effective attorney. In Asia, I am certain, they would have done their best to crush my spirit.
  • DeLiRiuM · 2 years ago
You'll come across many such individuals in life that'll be so very negative and unsupportive, but will be the first to congratulate you and sing your praises when things go well.

I used to have the same perception as 'Jeff from LA' with regards to education in Asia, but the fact that there are individuals (albeit in the minority) who are still thinking critically is testament to the fact that we're not all drones who're victims to a malignant education system.

And speaking of education systems, I've always been of the opinion that high scores does not an excellent person make. So chill, enjoy yourself, and go by the mantra of working hard and playing hard!
  • DeLiRiuM · 2 years ago
Oh, and I don't mind Claire not jumping 'cause you just KNOW that she's gonna kick some highschool ass later on... or break a leg. or a neck.
  • kimberleyho · 2 years ago
this is going to sound funny but back then you were quite a mysterious figure to us juniors. we only saw you a few times in a week, you with your pink scrunchie and white shoes. =P anyway just to let you know mr. iskandar always stuck up for you. he said he didn't give a shyt about what the other teachers and mr kenny said cause he thought you were good anyway.
  • WristBandMan · 2 years ago
You wrote about my high school life. Except that I didn't wear skirts...
  • ssg passerby · 2 years ago
did you know me and a lot of my friends (your juniors) look up to you! you are damn cool and preetty =) you're like our role model or sumthing
  • Yappy · 2 years ago
I like to sleep in class too back in high school, but the teachers just won't let me! When I reached school in the morning, I felt fresh and energetic but by the end of the day, all the energy is gone. Not because of the assignments or anything like that, it's cause the teachers were so boring! And they won't allow me to doze off! Talk about torture... In the end, I have to give all sorts of excuses to sleep (eg: unwell). Lolzzz... ;p
  • KY · 2 years ago
    late? what is new? :P
  • caryn · 2 years ago
i've slept thru primary, secondary schools, matriculation and am still sleeping in lectures as a medical student. my teachers had a lot to say about me too. hehe. reading this post does brings back memories. you're not the only alien out there, it's just that you haven't met other aliens yet. i know how it feels, coz i'm always the alien too. good luck in usa!
  • reallybites · 2 years ago
haiyo i havent watch heroes s2 yet. in fact, i havent even finish grey s3 yet bleh.

  • kimberlycun · 2 years ago
i slept through form 4 and form 5 (at home)...the difference between me and you...i flunk most of the subjects lmao

ppl go through lives pleasing everyone, teachers at highshool, clients at work, bosses at work. Fortunately some knew early that it's better than to lick the ass of knobend teachers on power trip. UNFORTUNATELY, the workplace presents no choice but to lick, suck and please. Truth is, we're just half screwed at best hehehe

p/s: your boss on power trip issit?? lol
  • sheon · 2 years ago
way to go girl..........................i was a bit like you..the alien part..but not the academic part.........hahahahahhaa

go run for prime minister-ship...........i'd vote for you....hell! i'll quit my job and campaign for you........!!!!!
  • li · 2 years ago
i was always a robot. always. too chicken to be an alien i guess...
  • TheRealAnonymous · 2 years ago
My high school days were pretty much like yours, I was an alien as well in the top class... so I totally get what you're trying to say. Mine was a double whammy though, coming from a very very conservative crowd and all, where probably not more than 5% of the school students knows how to use a computer... and if u swear, u're probably a gangster =p

The trick to survive is to not let what other people have to say about you get in your way of being who you really are. It doesn't matter what it is that you do looks to other people, what matters is how it looks to you.
But assuming you still are who u are today, i'm sure u would've already learnt that by now.

But anyhowz, back to the main context of the post. You're wondering how or why the heck are you becoming more and more of a robot, no?

Someone once said to me (and i strongly agree), people never change. You can't just walk up to a mirror and tell yourself, "i'm going to change", and change. It doesn't work like that. Not unless something happens. Something big. Big enough to condone change. Like a big bump in the head (or forehead, LoL); an event in life that corners you, traps you, forcing you to do something about it, forcing you to make that change; Consciously, or subconsciously.

So perhaps you're not getting answers because you're asking the wrong questions?
I would think your answers lie within' the event(s) or person(s) in your life, that had made you who you are today.
  • k0k · 2 years ago
I lost my place in my Physics tuition class because I'm always late and always dozed off when the cikgu talks - he told me not to come anymore. Got my 1A anyhow. I photocopied my SPM result and pasted it on the teach's gate with the legend "I Got Kicked Out Of This Physics Tuition"
  • Michael · 2 years ago
get go with local gangsters, collecting football stake debts, going to pubs when i'm 15...when most of my bunch cant even speak half a sentence of proper english, i can. swearing in front of teachers, getting slapped by the discipline teacher on the stairway...being given academic prize in front of the school assembly, in the school debate team, forum champion...get A's while they told me i will only manage to pass...that was me. i'm not being proud of all my dark side of history, but just, i want to prove that disciplined not equals to intellectual and the reverse. I know what i am doing.

Why is there so bad about being different?
Does not following rules u think is nonsense makes u a bad student?
Why should i not challenge some of the mediocre minds that is teaching me?
Why couldnt i have a taste of life as it is?
Why they give some lame reasons like protecting you while you can protect urself real well?

They produce you all uniformly, pack you in the identical package, label you as the same product...and then? Do the real world needs that? Or you personally, needs that?
  • Eva · 2 years ago
your skirt isn't that short! tsk what are the teachers complaining about ?!?
  • Michelle · 2 years ago
Hello alien. I'm robot from Pluto. =)

I think I'm the total opposite from you. I'm the goody two shoes but no, I don't do lickspittle. Not in my parlance. Haha.

We should from some top student club anyway.

    LOL.
  • Nick · 2 years ago
I guess it's called maturity. You can't be on full alien mode for the rest of your life.
  • gX · 2 years ago
haha...your post really stuck a chord with lots of people, including me. i'd say i was a bit of both. i've always thought, i'm the most coolest of the geeky bunch. or the geekiest of the cool bunch.
i was always doodling in class and not paying attention. i hated strict authority and prefects who nitpick you about the length of your nails. like having long fingernails is the end of the world like that. -__-
i guess, i didn't really care about conforming, but then again, i didn't want to get into any serious trouble either, so i was a good girl to a certain extent. :P mostly, cos i didn't want to disappoint my mom.
but i was always acknowledged as being smart, cos i did like getting good grades. i got 1st in the entire form for F1-F3 straight, in a top girl's school. :P straight As for PMR and 9A1s for SPM. and graduated from uni with a 3.98 CGPA.
just be who you have to be to be happy.
  • jennie · 2 years ago
im guilty of being the robot in school :)

ask my friends they would so know and tell you. mine started in form four. it was always expectations. always someone watching your every move. i felt restricted, and felt that i wasn't mysef most of the time, i had to put on that face, to show that i can do it, when deep down all i wanted to do was take off the damn prefects tie, the mask and climb over the school gate to be free. and i wondered, i did, what t was to fail for once, what would be everyone's reactions, to suddenly do something unexpected. but i never had the guts to do so.

and once i left highschool. it felt like i left my mask behind with it. and im myself again :)

there has to be a reason why ur feeling robot, just something u havent found yet.. take care.
  • Angeline · 2 years ago
we really need more teachers whose 1st ambition is to become teacher
hands up for more teacher incentives !

and more importantly cool education department ppl
  • sze · 2 years ago
was wondering which school did u go to, just being curious
  • winnie · 2 years ago
gee, your teachers sure were mean.

but you showed them. you go girl!
  • mm · 2 years ago
what you are feeling is just part and parcel of growing and maturing, it means you are ready to move on girl to another stage/challengers in life.all in the pursuit of finding and creating yourself. best wishes.
  • Angeline · 2 years ago
    on the other hand,

    know whom you owe

i quote that from one of my respected authors.. Hugh Hewitt.

when you become a leader it is impt that you know who helped you to be who you will be
there must be a teacher that you draw inpiration from.. you can write about that ! =)

please don't ostracize me as lecturing you la ^_^
i'm just two years your senior so no significant age gap right sis?
    k peace off
  • Angeline · 2 years ago

  • Claire · 2 years ago
hahahahaha mr mani's my class teacher NOW & he happens to have THE highest opinion of you! :)
  • Porcupine · 2 years ago
    Hmmmm...
You should've gone to the teachers and scream "IN YOUR FACE!!!"
Wouldn't that be fun to see...
  • Ryan · 2 years ago
I would think it were those obstacles that made you lived harder than you otherwise could.

You remind me of myself, I had 3 Maths Olympiad titles and 2 national physics titles by the age of 17. Of course I had to study like every bookworm in my class, 12 hours a day to keep myself in the top 3. Besides that 2-3 hours on pc games + basketball, an hour for my societies ( more like training classes by my school to make sure I bring them the trophies), and another 1-2 hours on my gf every day.

That leaves me like 6 hours of sleep and 15 minutes of pee/dump/bathe time.

I didn't sleep in class but sure I enjoyed arguing with teachers...Even scolded the discipline teacher a dog and barked in front of him..don't ask what happened after that

I still have no idea how I survived that. I guess life is only worth living when it's impossible.

Now I'm merely working in a stupid Insurance company that works me like a cow from 8am to 9pm everyday while earning peanuts....I feel insignificant.

    If you could, live lively.

p/s: You have a terribly cute but heart-warming smile.
  • id · 2 years ago
wohoo private school also got drama like this hoh
  • Ben · 2 years ago
eh claire... where does Mr Mani teach now? I thought he retired

  • Michelle · 2 years ago
    I meant *form Pinkpau.

    Pardon my spelling. =PPPPPPPPPPP
  • pinkpau · 2 years ago
gin : i think you are a bigger alien than i am!

    sweat : ya memang wtf

artificially : i think it's the growing up part. meeting like-minded aliens shouldnt make me feel robotly, right? eh actually you're also an alien wan, but i think singapore (and the corporate world!) is turning you robot. hmmm maybe singapore is what's turning me robot too!

entwined : no lah i definitely feel different. less of an individual than i used to feel. haha but peter is still whiny in season 2

sieutheng : i want to see some accctioooonn

jeff : that's exactly it. it's a total cultural thing. here, when you speak your mind, sometimes you get accused of being 'too western-like', which is totally weird. this xenophobia is probably a shadow of our past colonial days that asians cant shake off.

delirium : true that we're not all drones, but it's sad that the not-drones are but a minority in our culture. yeahhh im just waiting for claire to kick that head cheerleader's ass.

kimberleyho : my white shoes hahaha! i miss those things. awww encik iskandar said that?? that is so incredibly nice of him :)))) he always believed in me, and that was something i really appreciated through my years of schooling.

wristbandman : did you have really outrageous boy hair then?? :P

ssg passerby : what, really??! hahaha gawds dont do that. i'm not a very good role model. but thanks :) it's really cool to know that.

yappy : and they buy that excuse?! :O

    ky : grrrrrr

caryn : us aliens should bond together :D sleeping thru med school, hahaha! i hope you dont fall asleep through surgery or other procedures when you venture into practice!

reallybites : why havent you watched greys season 3! it's so good! heroes is blah, both season 1 and 2

bs : haha eh i dont know about that.. i think a lot of people used to be really scared of me, for a reason unbeknown to me =(

ben : i'd rather have original glazed than a laser beam! 9th nov w00t

kimberlycun : haha i love that - (at home)! yeah im beginning to see that asskissing is just inevitable sometimes. but i refuse to do it !!! *womanly pride!* the day i kiss my boss' ass is the day i die wtf

sheon : eh you dont bluff ah. if i venture into politiks i will remember this comment wan :P

li : i hope you were a nice robot at least.. the robots i encountered were always extremely self righteous

therealanon : once again, good advice from the real anonymous :P i dont know what to say in response. i think you're right, about not letting other people's opinions get in the way of who you are. but sometimes its easier said than done, especially when these ppl are your loved ones. and no lah nothing big happened to me; i think that change came about over time, and then i got used to it. it happens.

k0k : haha damn vengeful lah you. so did you like my screenshot of your ads? :P

michael : wow this is the first coherent comment i've gotten from u :)

    eva : that's my long skirt :P

michelle : what is lickspittle? haha i wanna be in that club only if i can be president !!!

nick : it's not always about the skipping school and talking back. what i mean is i've lost that essentially alien part of me who would always stick up for her principles and be extremely vocal about it. these days, among other things, i feel like i let a lot of things slide simply because i want to avoid trouble or upsetting people.

gX : HAHA that fingernails part is damn funny. not wanting to disappoint your mom was very mature of you, what more at that high school age. yeah, getting good grades kick ass :) but wtf 3.98 CGPA is just too much. well but i'm glad i've got a fellow alien in you, who gets good grades as well :D i think we're the best breed of alien there is wtf. we could rule the milky way!

jennie : you were a prefect !! haha first sign of being robot. well i personally think there's nothing wrong with being robot just so long as you dont judge other people who are not like you. my classmates used to be like that. it was very annoying talking to them, because these people got good grades and stuff but they were just so mentally and emotionally vapid. btw im glad that you found yourself after high school :) better late than never.

angeline : it's more about the capability than the ambition, really

sze : i went to sri garden

winnie : that's not the extent of their meanness :P

mm : sigh, growing pains. it's like puberty all over again.

angeline : i definitely know who i owe, and who i dont owe :)

claire : WTF you're kidding. wtf wtf wtf mr mani teaches you??? how do you know he used to teach me?! which school are you in!

porcupine : no lah so vengeful for what. i just smiled and graciously accepted their congratulations.

ryan : wow it sounds like you had THE prototype life of a role model student.. haha you even have your schedule locked down!!! that's incredible. eh i like you already, you have my favourite combination - booksmarts + athletic + gamer + loves gf. hahaha! please tell me you used to be a debater! btw quit your job

    id : why not

markrega : ahh join the club :D
  • jovann · 2 years ago

well... there's always the hope of finding non-sleeping-poisoned-flavored cupcakes to keep you alien in singapore.
  • Claire · 2 years ago
lol, im not kidding you.. cos in some of your earlier posts you mentioned something abt a 'mr mani flying the coop' and i knew that mr mani was frm sri garden, so i asked him if he knew you anddd all that lah :D sorry i kind of pretended to him tht i knew you.. :/ (and i guess i sortof DID, through ur blog >.
  • Claire · 2 years ago
gah comment got screwed! anyway yea the schl's sri nobel. and ben no he's definitely nt retired; not THIS yr anyhow!
  • Michelle · 2 years ago
lickspittle is some slang my friend used it on people who lick the shoes of others. =)

Well, if I were to form that club, everyone will want to run as president. We top students are so used to being on the top and that's like the main problem...

Oh hey, then we can form the President's Club.

Motto: 'Where every top student is a President'

    *winks.
  • Ryan · 2 years ago
Well thanks. But the role model from my school was the one who spend 14 hours studying everyday. I just couldn't study one bit without balancing it out with the pc games and ball games.

As with my gf, I just had to show them managing relationship has nothing to do with age but maturity. And erm, nope I tried to explore debating but I just don't like all the rules, ie have to take turns?!

Yeah you're reading my mind. I AM planning to leave my company. It's rather pathetic that I can't see where I'll be in 3-6 months' time.

  • k0k · 2 years ago
    'twas you? o_0

I kinda imagined that to be another Su Ann (let's face it, it's a quite commonplace name xD). The screens were top hole. Thanks for taking the trouble.

And the word 'moolah' - I laughed when I saw it because it was so bloody unexpected. The usual tech staff e-mails are so frightfully formal.
  • nick c · 2 years ago
just because your classmates didnt speak up and deviate from the norms of the classroom, it doesnt mean they arent unique individuals in their own right.

as for running for student coucil president, i dont think you would be fit since you proudly admmited that you werent in school most of the time.
  • tze · 2 years ago
at least they didnt call u out in assembly and made you show everyone how short your skirt was T___T hey i think u and i have had veryyyyy similar experiences :p they also always tell me off for not going for class ok! and tell me off for dating someone from last class! and and told me that i wont do well for spm T_T
  • Francis Foo · 2 years ago
Secondary school life....nothing special...except how the teacher despise you for being confrontional to them...
i slept at class almost everyday...still end up getting 10a.....haha
this shows that we need not to attend class to get result...
lame education system....you suck big time...most of the time could have been used to develop sports talent....etc.
That's why...that's 2 groups of people in school....the Nerd type(who always study and anti-social...even if they social around, they're the arrogant type) and the very friednly kind(bad or good...it doesn't matter. at least they enjoyed their life to the fullest)
    Happy growing up!!
  • songjun · 2 years ago
lol pretty eyes had this interesting quote on her coaster...

" Success is the best revenge"

    haha
  • Yappy · 2 years ago
Not all the time... lolzz... that's why I can't always use that excuse, even though it works better than others. :)
I don't have many robot friends. I find them quite stifling. It's really hard to talk or discuss anything with them because they don't have much to say. And the majority of them are quite conservative.
My bestie went to the same coll as me and was unfortunate enough to be in this class filled with robots! When asked what kinda qualities they want in their spouses, the guys want quiet, obedient, nice wives. And the girls actually agree and said that when they are someone's wives they will be nice and obedient to their husbands' wishes too! I was dumbfounded when I heard that. Seriously, wtf....
  • ashleighhhh · 2 years ago
haha people from sri garden last time look damn innocent wan during their school days.

Ceh...the skirt where got short...the ones in my school look more like belts...some passerby actually took pics of the girls and complained to the school...LOL
  • the unknown · 2 years ago
i had similar schooldays. although when the add maths teacher tried to brag about my spm results, i turned around and told her this "fuck u, i was never your student." and thanked my Bahasa teacher who never did give me touble. after so many years, the thought of that still brings a smile!
  • TheRealAnonymous · 2 years ago
Time waits for no one. Times change, and if we don't adapt to it quick, we'll be left behind... thus forcing us to change. Just tot u were wondering what made u changed, so i just pointed out the right direction for u to look in case u were looking for some answers merz. LoL

Yes, no doubt that not letting what ppl think get in the way of you living your life is easier said than done... nonetheless its something we all must learn in due time. Stop trying to please everyone else if it isn't gonna do any good to ya... stop carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. The earlier u learn to let go, the earlier u'd find out just how carefree life can be. =)

Life is simple. You make choices, and you don't look back.
  • pinkpau · 2 years ago
jovann : but of course darling

sheon : eh even better like that

li : HAHA unfortunately an alien in these days would need a degree to remain a competitive alien :P

sieutheng : dont angwy schmangwy.. haha i just like how innocent i look in that pic with aira!

hey there : as in my major? i dont know yet :) fortunately i dont have to decide until my 3rd year in america. ah the beauty of their system

artificially : i dowan oredi lah not nice wan the cupcakes

claire : wow i cant believe mr mani is back in school. haha he actually quit teaching for awhile. pls do send him my regards! tell him pinkpau tells him not to be so hamsap and that he owes his tuition bunch murukku this deepavali!! (tip : take his tuition if he sets ur exam papers.... hahahaha but dont tell anyone i said that)

michelle : EH that is soooo true hahahaha okok we form a round table club where everyone gets to put President on their certificate.. hahhahaha

ryan : 14 hours?? got so much to study meh at spm level. studying 2 hrs a day is like way more than enough. eh why you dont like taking turns during debate! it's organized! and all the best re your future .. :) do what makes u happy.

joanne : *beams* glad to be of help

gin : us aliens gotta stick together

lalita : indeed :D for both academics and broken relationships!

k0k : haha i laughed when i saw your help desk ticket. damn angry, and BOLDED some more. "NONE of this ads have shown up". hahahaha damn cute

nick c : why is it that the standards of what makes a good president depend on something like attendance? pretty silly if u ask me. whats the point of electing a student council with members recording 100% attendance but no leadership qualities.

tze : oh my god did they really make you do that??? hahahaha kesian kesian. and yes why issit that we 1st class girls are attracted to the bad boys =( did you make out at the 2nd floor too wtf

francis foo : eh u know, i was in the class that everyone else said was nerdy and anti social and arrogant.. haha actually it's not true wan! okay we may be nerdy and stuff but antisocial and arrogant is not true. i think it's just shyness misinterpreted

songjun : that's true lah but i highly doubt my teachers had any kind of serious vendetta against me that they will lose sleep if i'm successful.. haha

yappy : ya i know what u mean abt stifling. but the shy quiet ppl just need some time before they open up :)

    ashleighhh : haha ya memang

    wolfx : banana uniform! remember!

    lisa : i really wish i could :D

xj : that's not my shortest skirt.. haha taking class pictures where can wear short skirt wan! but granted mine did not look like a belt :P

Hmm..ur situation back in the days are like mine NOW! I am so confused now. I am in the top class too and i tried very hard to be my school's orientation president. I didnt do the stupid shoe polishing thing. That's a right choice i guessed. And when others(who also wants to be president) knew what i am doing, they were like....isolating me..so sad. Yep, luckily i still have a few friends that are loyal and still friendly to me.
What to do? Just hope things will still go well. At least, not worst.
