  • It's my first to be the first.

Great to hear that you're taking excellent care of yourself there. HuG!
  • Hi Pinkpau,

Please take care of yourself - there isn't any where which is safe in US. I mean, you have to take precautions. Don't take risk since you are alone. And i would advice you to remove your address in USA from the website. You'll never know the kind of "Net" freaks out there these days. Just be safe than sorry. What a shame I won't be able to mail you any Msian goodies as there aren't any Msian stores in Orlando. Take care and god bless.

    Kiran

ps: BTW, if you need my help in any way, email me and we can keep in touch over the phone.
  • Remember 2 wash the clothes which u wore when u were sitting in Franklin's lap extra extra well :P Sounds like you have nice subjects this sem... with the exception of calculus >.< Since u walk so much, convince yourself its for the sake of exercise lar :P
  • Started reading your blog recently. Glad to hear that you're adjusting. Yes the sun will tan you here more quickly. I can spend a month in Singapore and not get as dark as I can in two days here in North America (I'm in Canada).

One piece of advice. You might consider getting a personal alarm or a whistle if you have to walk in dark places or alone (usually $20 or less for the alarm, maybe a dollar for the whistle). It might be a hassle, but you'll love it if you have to use them to draw attention to you.
  • go get yourself some peper spray, that would keep you safe... as for the stalker.. did you do anything unusual to look like a visitor? they usually prey on visitors. but next time, make sure you walk with some friends..
good luck in columbia... i am sure you will meet tons of smart people that are amazing.

ps: you can also use amazon.com for text, they are pretty good and they ship fast.
  • su ann i would say nowhere in this world is safe.my sis was followed till the place she stays but luckily nothing happened coz the person ran away when my sis realized his existence.i think Kiran is right.you better remove your address from the previous entry for precautious.take care :)
  • books from amazon maybe?they are really really cheap

    good luck there
  • Heya, here's some tips for ya - you don't need a credit card, your bank's debit card will do. Most banks offer free debit cards when you open a checking account with them, and don't forget to ask if they have student checking accounts (they're usually free, otherwise you have to pay some subscription/annual fee thingo).

Also, I try to get my textbooks (used ones) on Amazon or Half.com rather than at the school bookstore. I've saved alot of money that way.

Stay safe, and have a great term!
  • Oh, and e-mail me if you have questions! I'll definitely try to help :)
  • Sorry haha I'm spamming your comments section. Here's the general rule for tipping at restaurants, taxis, and most services you receive:

Good service (this is the minimum amount that you MUST tip): 15% of your total bill

Very good service: 20% of your total bill

Excellent service: 25% of your total bill

Of course you can go anywhere in between 15 to 25% but anything lower than 15 is considered rude. If you're unlucky enough to get bad service, leave a $1 tip rather than none at all. Apparently its more insulting that way :P

If you're staying at a hotel don't forget to leave $1 per person per night for housekeeping in your room every day you are staying there because it might be a different housekeeper each time. I just save myself that money by hanging the Do Not Disturb sign on my door and paying the tips only on the final day before I check out.

Tipping for people such as porters and bus drivers and anyone who helps you with your luggage is generally $1 per bag.
  • so glad to know you're doing so well over there ^^
but do stay safe, as mad-eye moody used to say, "Constant Vigilance!"
  • i'm in FL, and my friend uses AT&T (but i dont), and he said AT&T is actually better for making international call and text. maybe you shld call the line or sth? and yes, tipping. hates it. so me and my roommate always insist of to-go! (:
  • stay safe, dun ever walk alone at nite...pls...take k
  • Hey Su Ann,
your COLUMBIA t-shirt is so nice.
    i love AMERICAN UNIsss t-shirts.
must be enjoying your time in uni?
i think the subjects which you took are quite interesting weh!

    Have fun in NY.

    Best regards,

    Ee Vonn.
  • haha i guess it's one of those new-to-ny things. i swear it's really safe here... maybe mugging only happens in harlem? i dunno, down in the village mugging's practically unheard of. i mean, people will rob your ass if you're careless enough to leave stuff unguarded, but no snatching.

and.... yeah no walking outside after midnight. though i could never really figure out what business anyone would have walking in nyc after midnight lor.

AND. haha don't bother using at&t to call/text overseas because it is friggin expensive. oklah if got money to waste then that's not an issue, but errrrr it can get quite unnerving (esp since you have to PAY when people reply your texts) when you get your monthly bill............ stick to skype for international comm, MUCH cheaper. like 2 cents a minute? depending on where you're calling to la.
  • try adding 01160 to the number u want to text or call to. eg. 011 6012 345 6789

    :)
  • books are soooo expensive. half.com is good but if your campus has like bookswaps or something you should def take advantage of it (buy backs at the end of the qtr/sem are not worthwhile either...)

looks like you are having a nice time :)
  • Su Ann! Take care and keep writing! I am following closely... :)
  • eh krispies treats! im a sucker for bubble tea and post- its also. i thought UK textbooks were expensive O_O why so nice wan people sending you packages. i think when i go abroad the only person who will send me stuff is myself wtf.
  • strange your at&t can't text/receive international. mine worked fine when i was there in july. maybe you should call them up? but geeez.. it costs a bomb. it was okay to text people internationally cos i was charged the local rate, but i felt like killing the person when he/she replies. :(
  • eh why got no pics of your room!
  • where are u studying at in nyc? columbia uni? wht course r u taking? sorry, i just followed ur blog frm kennysia recently
  • hey just want to let you know that you can always catch grey's anatomy (or other abc shows) online on abc.com. they post new episodes at 2am the next day after it airs. abc.com has the best streaming video player/program of all the tv networks here. they put almost all their primetime series on there.

other tv channels put many of their shows online too. so dont sweat it if you miss an episode or two of your favorite shows. :)
  • yay you're getting a macbook too! I just got mine recently and i'm so glad i converted.. sigh. what's BGR? I really dont know what it is.. you make college sounds so fun i wanna do it all over again!
  • take care take care!
  • can call and text internationally, albeit for an extravagant fee.
  • Shucks! That stalker on bicycle reminds me of my close encounter with a molester on a bicycle too, many years ago. Read it here http://kreazilove.blogspot.com/2008/08/i-was-al...

You take care okay. Get a whistle or something. Also a mini torchlight if you have to walk at night...
  • If your looking for books and if you dun mind second hand, contact the seniors. Usually 50% off the total.

Good luck ya! And take care.
  • yealo! i bought so many pairs of heels from malaysia but they hardly get any use at all because my feet hurt too much to walk half an hour to an hour in them everyday. T.T
    and.... what's BGR?
  • such a FABULOUS bunch of readers. i got no role to play as all grounds are covered! ..mailed food packages, beat me to asking u to take out ur address (this instant), safety tips, detailed advice regarding phone n debit cards, purchase books, skype, abc shows online..etc.. with peeps like 2,3,4,5,6,7,8=9=10,23,25,26,27,28 n still counting..who needs an aunt??? with chew fui, u’ll get by without mum too! ..no.3 is not counted if he’s a ‘upenner’ coz they practise bad hygiene..tis reminds me to wash my jeans again too!! arrrggh
  • what lerr me..kenot even get my numbers in sequence after number 10....ouch ..no wonder i still cant sleep now despite counting sheep for so long.!..hmmm..1,2,3 8,10..arr..1,2,3....arr..
  • Yup, it is quite dangerous in the city. In Sydney too. Must also be careful even on uni campus. Please have someone with you especially when walking at night.

Yeah, textbooks are expensive. Each semester, have to pay so much for the books...some that I seldom use. I can imagine walking that far on campus. But it is good exercise, no need to pay money for gym :D
  • Err...I think the church groups were more against PRE-MARITAL SEX than BGR. More like against teenaged pregnancies than not being able to study, I think. :) Do christians these days engage in sex outside marriage? :)
  • Natalie

    BGR = boy-girl relationship !
  • T-mobile prepaid allows international calls/text. Its very reliable because I used it myself when I was in nyc, and could make all calls/text back to KL without any problem.

Its not safe to walk in nyc at night alone, but in the daytime its ok. Dont lock yourself in your room just because u're afraid to go out alone.....I mean, theres so much to see and enjoy in manhattan so take every opportunity to go out. Just take precautions - like coming home before dark, and carry a pepperspray/alarm.

btw - i noticed you post your address in one of your earlier entries....uhm I suggest you remove it. This is a public blog, u never know who's reading (stalking!) you. Never EVER post any private info on your blog. Really, take this seriously!

P.S:- just in case u're wondering, Im a new reader of your blog. Stumbled upon it randomly and now Im hooked. U're a good writer and your life seems so......interesting! :))
  • 3. Not particularly an American card, but Malaysian cards generally aren't accepted by online retailers due to the high level of fraud here. Just get a Debit card anyway, Visa Debit is better then a credit card.

Also 3. Just call them up, if it's like UK you have to enable International abilities on your account. It's not on by default.

    8. Yes please do tip well!

    9. Get yourself a pepper spray and take some female self-defence classes - it'll teach you situational awareness which is the MOST important factor when it comes to personal safety. If you feel threatened get the pepper spray in one hand and your keys in the other hand. GOUGE EYES AND SPRAY!
  • Hahaha... wonder if u'll be hogging the TV during American Idol ? LoL... now, YOU TOO can make a DIFFERENCE! haha... vote for your favourites! LoL... =p Surely a lotta people busy with their phones right after the show... haha. Wonder whut that scenario's gonna be like? Do describe when the time comes... =)
  • walk arnd in pjs! nice nice
  • why are u not onlineeeeeeee... it's almost 3am here, i'm lazy to count what time issit there but why can't i ever catch u online wannnn???

    :(
  • no need american credit card to buy online!

use malaysia one and charge parents only. HAHAH.

    i'm so evil. no lah.

but seriously, just use your billing address (probably house address?) from malaysia and it'll run through fine. malaysian banks i think charge like 1% of the transaction as an extra cost?

things like books shouldn't be a burden if you buy international editions! :)
  • Same here. Walk too much ( I walk two hours a day) and I can't use my heels. I brought no flats ( Very dreadful!!! )...

Yes, do enjoy the sun. When winter comes, you become all depressed. Something you won't like.
  • why do you need to learn Italian! are you joining the mafia? :(
  • About the tap water. I used to drink it from the tap until one day I saw some white-ish stuff in my cup! I was terrified and then my friends told me to use a filter to filer the water before drinking. It taste better after using the filter.

I'm using Brita filter. Very convenient and quite affordable. You can replace the pitcher like every month (depending how often you use it).

As for the AT&T, do you sign any contract? Did you ask them why you're not allow to make international calls? 'cause uh... Sometimes angmoh can be quite inefficient when it comes to these things. You have to ask every question to make sure they do the thing right. Even if you're qualified for certain things but you didn't ask them, they'd just miss it sometimes.

Hope these helps. Oh, and try not to walk alone at night (I noticed there's a lot of drunkards over here). :) Take care!
  • it's a very wet and cold autumn here :( and im getting depressed already. So enjoy the sun ! Glad you are coping well

    take care :)
  • Go to www.campusi.com to get the cheapest textbooks! Its one of the best secrets that I've learned since I came to US.
  • girl girl.. hahah you should have come to cambridge! its safe! =)
  • hello! half.com and amazon.com are my saving graces! and yes indeed high heels are rendered useless in new york. i barely wear them now and if i do, only shorter kitten heels... havaianas and sneakers are my best friends when i venture out of the apartment.

oh and yes, get a debit card. i'd recommend hsbc because it's international so if your parents have an account there it'd be super easy for them to put money in your account. they'd generally give you a savings/checking account.. complete with checkbook lol. and a debit mastercard that makes paying for things online/swiping so much easier. plane tickets if purchased online can only be paid with an american credit/debit card.

be careful when you walk around late night; i've been guilty of being out at 2am but so far i've not met anyone freaky.. except for the perv who was wanking on the street one night displaying his privates for the world to see.. -____- your subway stop should be okay - it's right outside the gate of the college! but yeah, be vigilant =)

    see you in 16 days!
  • I so agree that the bubble milk tea in the States is much better than any that they serve here in Msia, plus they arent so kiam siap with the pearls over there.

My average expenditure for books/literature per semester is about 400 usd for 3-4 classes ... and I buy used books too. There are probably much cheaper ways to get books than go to the used bookstores that are overly advertised everywhere on campus. I found that the best way would be to trade textbooks or attend student-organised used book sales. much much cheaper. If you plan to buy from Amazon, look early and plan your classes early, sometimes books can take pretty long to arrive especially if they are from 3rd party sellers and not Amazon itself.

How come you have to walk so far, tak de campus buses or free public transportation that you can take from your dorm to classes?

As for credit cards, you should just get a debit card from your bank in the States. Don't use credit cards in Malaysia.. transaction rates and the extra charges on exchange rates will kill you. Ringgit is damn weak now too.

Now that you're in the States, internet's probably fast enough for you to stream tv channels online too, though might eat up your bandwidth limit if your dorm has one =D
  • Su Ann, further to my comment in #27, I think you should really get a torchlight. Get a small one if you think it's too bulky to stuff into your bag. It will come in handy whenever you have to walk in dark or quiet places.. and if, touch wood, you ever ocme across any perverts or muggers, you can actually shine it at their eyes. You know, you can get those LED torchlight with high lumens. It's really very bright and can momentarily blind tht person if shone directly at the eyes. That will give you time to break free and run away!
  • i tot our country is not the safest one? lol..... ^_^
  • Hi, for most US cellphone (Verizon and AT&T at least) you would need to go activate international calls and text messaging. And since you're on a prepaid line, I would recommend going to the website I check on the possible rates (under unknown circumstances, 1 minute could be upward to $1.50).
  • buongiorno!

    hahahaha.
    i hope that's correct.

yeah why take italian and not spanish or something?
    just curious to know.

do take care. i've heard nasty stories about the U, S and A.
  • =S=s pls be careful! dont get mugged and i really hope there arent that many racists there..buy some stuff along the lines of pepper spray?and always go around with someone..and best to stay indoors after dark i think..take care there..

  • What I did was go to the authorized shop and ask them about it.
  • Ok I just went and checked. The details are here: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international...
  • to get cheap books use www.bigwords.com
it's a search engine and will compare the prices of many shops online =)
  • im using at&t's pay as you go.. for a week already and im texting home just fine. didnt try calling tho cuz i use a calling card for that...
  • You're most welcome. I use prepaid AT&T, can call n text international, BUT the call rates are just too high, plus they charge $1 a day for days you call/receive call. Do you have a phone line in your room? Can use call cards...definitely cheaper. And if you can choose between debit/credit card, go for credit. More identity theft potential with a debit card.
  • oh yeah. if you dont like the phone. just return it. their refund policies here quite awesome XD but u need the box and all la.
  • Well, if you're talking about Nine West and Wittner's. It's like I keep seeing ninewest everywhere. In KL, Ninewest is like whoa... Ninewest here is so common, I think. Anyway, during the sales, I bought a pair of realllly nice boots. They are selling in KL for nearly Rm 900. It's like nearly a thousand. But here, I got it for like Rm 300 plus. Such a steal!!!!

Yeah, tap water here is drinkable too. SO weird. Imagine if suddenly the PM announces that tap water in KL is drinkable. Everyone will freak out.
  • I spent like over Rm 1000 over for textbooks too. I see how academics and professors are valued here.

And books. GOSH, BOOKS are just so expensive here. If I were to buy a novel, I have to fork like like 22 AUD or more. Sometimes, there's discounts at Big W. But it'll still be expensive. But because i crave to read ( Like how I crave for Godivas or Leonidas ) I splurge on books. terrible me.
  • just don't go into bronx or sunset park, jamaica, or se ctown..and a few others.. not after hours and never go alone.

good thing you didn't hit the neyo(yes the artist) he bailed on the event.

just got back from the city actually. rode in with my duck.

att or any line is good in the city. go crazy. tmobile is the cheapest btw. half.com is a life saver or try amazon.com. just resell your books next sem. ppl will buy them and you won't be ripped by that stupid barnes n nobles store next st. remember. st then ave. not the other way around. and be happy with ny water, its cleaner than jersey water.

and yes pls tip. i hate ppl who don't tip well. ya def need a bank acct here. hsbc is everywhere nowadays.

    good luck on freshmen 15.

oh yah. ppl pee everywhere in the city too. drunk. facebook is ur best friend.
  • oh don't use any cc in ctown.
  • Your welcome :) Wahhh I really respect you for you tireless efforts at replying everyone, heh, but that's a good thing *pats back*

About the filters zoe mentioned, they're actually filter jugs (aka PITCHERS in the US of A). Hmm how do I explain - its a jug with a top and bottom compartment and a carbon filter in the middle that separates the two. You fill the top compartment with water and it flows through the filter, so when its completely flowed through the filter you get cleaner drinking water (or so I hope!). I guess it would be better if you had visuals, so here's a link:
  • About the safety thing, big cities (NY/LA/Chicago) are all pretty dangerous for a girl walking alone at night. Walking with friends is always a smart thing to do. Of course, girls in the US always go together to do everything so I think that they might not notice it as much. I'm sure dormmates/friends will always be willing to go with you if you ever need to get around.

College students in the US always dress super casual, so I'm not surprised that they roll around in their pajamas. Cal Berkeley used to be famous for the naked guy that they had who attended all his classes in the nude (Berkeley is a bit more extreme than most).

I think its funny that you're worried about tanning. I've noticed that white people are always worried about being pale, Asian people are always worried about turning too dark. (Also I'm sure you would never do this, but never call a white person pale/pasty to their face, many white people consider it offensive.)

Referring to other people's advice about getting a debit card versus a credit card: In many ways a debit card is not as good as a credit card. With a credit card, if its ever stolen, then you are not responsible for the items that are purchased with the stolen credit card. With a stolen debit card, you might be responsible for the items that a thief purchases if you don't report the loss of the card if you don't report the loss within a day or two. Also, having a credit card and paying it off every month helps you build your super important "credit score."

However, if you might be tempted to buy things with a credit card that you don't actually have the money for, then a debit card might be the way to go.

Whether you go with a debit card or credit card, you probably need a bank account. Look for a bank with free checking/no fees banking for students. Your university probably has a credit union with free checking, if not Bank of America has free checking accounts for students, and I'm sure other banks have such accounts as well.
  • i used a uk and malaysian phone. worked fine on both :) haha. all the best with that stubborn phone/sim card!!!! yeah.. the at&t staff was damn bitchy and rude, even in boston :(
  • Going for this?

President Lee C. Bollinger is pleased to announce that on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7:00 p.m.,... remarks by Senators John McCain and Barack Obama. Moderated by TIME Magazine Editor Richard Stengel and PBS NewsHour Anchor Judy Woodruff, the forum will offer both candidates a national stage to discuss the role of service in America.

  • can send food from msia over or not?
  • having Martian around is definitely a plus! how long is he there for?
  • Hi Su Ann,

I'm glad you're taking Italian! It always seem to lose out to Spanish but personally I like the sound of its pronunciations- it's a bit more refined as the latter was just too latino for my taste. I live in Italy now, but would love to move to NY someday definitely!

In bocca al lupo! (break a leg)
  • wei whr's my postcard and the email u said u were writing?
  • Ooooh, ITALIAN!!! Molto bene!! I'm starting my Italian lessons very soon too, I hope I don't get some garang Italiano as a teacher. What books will you be using?

yes, done it numerous times – to ensure safe delivery/arrival, u check the box for “hadiah” and in the keterangan write in english “GIFTS”. if the sender put ‘FOOD” the usa custom will open all “food’ parcels for inspection, so if u put ‘gifts’ they may not open and even if they open, no violation as they are “food gifts”. the custom will confiscate any food item that is not cooked or they're not sure. so make sure you relabel all the individual food items in simple english clearly and wrap it around the individual item. the custom will take your words as labelled and no fuss. eg belacan, just label as ‘dried shrimp paste’. and shipping is the best way to go. from PJ to NY - Air Mail ( 7 to 10 days ) 2.84kg = RM 160.30 (it was the first and last time i sent by air!)

    Sea Mail (1 to 3months)
    3 kg = RM 34.40
    5 kg = RM 54.70
    10 kg = RM 102.40
20 kg = RM 200.70 (Max load per parcel/box allowed is 20 kg)

    good luck.
  • dont send sth like 11 kg, they will charge u as 20 kg!! so logically u send sth like 19.9 kg!! m'sia post office DOIES NOT do pro-rated charges. and that was in 2007. u got to go to the particular post office you wanna use to get the exact rates for the diff destinations intended too.
  • pinkpau I love your blog...it's so cute...haha
and OMG I'm so friggin jealous of you!!! I lovelovelove NYC!!! probably due to all those tv shows and movies and books and travel guides but oh well...hehe I wanna live there!!!
lol anyway...I wanna wish you all the best there =D studying in NYC sound so fun..hehe. take care yea
    all the best =)
  • "it’s not fair (literally!!! haha.. ha.. ha..), "

lol. love the pun. xD glad to hear that everything's fine and well. btw don't mind if i ask, but what exactly are you taking? degree? i can't tell from the subjects. -.- maybe you mentioned it in other posts but i forgot. heee. oops.
  • skyler showed me this update. As a former New Yorker, I'll clarify:

    1. I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about with the boiled water. The water in NYC comes from the finger lakes and it kicks ass.
    2. The sun is somehow hotter in the US? What garbage is this. How? Maybe in AZ. Else, you're crazy.
    3. You can text internationally with AT&T, my brother's texted me a few times and he has AT&T (and he lives in brooklyn).
    4. don't talk shit about ben franklin, he owns you.
    5. tipping is an American thing, not just an NYC thing. And yes, you look like a tool if you don't tip at least 12%
    6. Not safe?? New York City has many times in recent years been the safest large city in North America. (That includes Canada and Mexico, as well as the caribbean). Unless you're hanging around the graveyard in the bronx or el barrio/east harlem you'll be fine. Rule of thumb: if there's RAZORWIRE on the fences in a neighborhood, stay out of that neighborhood. EZ PZ.
For the most part It's safer than KL for sure. If you want an unsafe north american city, visit camden, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; compton, CA; detroit, MI or even Edmonton, AB. You'll notice a dramatic difference.
  • slater was reading this over my shoulder I don't know what he is talking about
  • excuse me while i fight with him on msn
  • moral lessons learnt from reading blogs
    - if u are not even sure of what the hell someone is talking, it makes you an empty vessel to curse
    - worse if you spew garbage when you yourself implied wrongly from the written lines that getting a tan in new york means the sun is hotter in usa.
    - ben franklin is awesome but a "statue of it with pee" owns only misguided shit
    - being one of the 8 millions or more new yorkers doesn’t qualify you as the SINGLE authority on safety in new york, least of all rest of the cities.
  • Time to buy urself one of those "I HEART NY" T-shirts mate....

Make all us asian tourist back home proud....hahaha

Oh a buddy of mine in LA when i was back there told me he once went to NY, saw someone chain his bike to a pole outside a store. My buddy went in the store and came back out 5 minutes later and noticed that the wheels were stolen off the bike.....hilarious...at the time it seemed so...hahaha....cos shit like that didn't happen in Chino....hehehe

And i think if u dont already have MySpace you better get one....its like the american friendster...
  • @ 70 naebo

on second thought maybe ur question is meant for pinkpau to answer. i was too eager to help out as i overwhelmingly emphatize with anak msia deprived of m'sian food. anyway, good luck wherever you are.
  • the malaysian government thinks we are well developing-not backwards, economic strengthen, better lifestyle balablabla... until the people witness for themselves what a malaysian ringgit could do oversea... 200USD for a book could just be 'normal' if not cheap, whilst for a malaysian, how many of them could afford a book which cost them RM700? probably 2 out of 20 of them. sorry might sound harsh, MALAYSIAN PLEASE WAKE UP. (this is not for you pinkpau cause i know you are awake by now).

on the other hand, pinkpau are u really sure is 5000 miles?? i dont know if its a typo but its way exagerating!!! 5000 miles == 8000 kilometres == 8 Million metres?? that is 1000 times more than school marathon leh...

is the moon alot bigger than malaysia? i personally think it is! have a nice 4 yrs there... avoid the cheerleader cause they might get too bitchy.. haha
  • Welcome to America. Wake up, we're not in happy old Malaysia anymore where everyone is friendly and asian. Life living by yourself, is a cold, cruel world, yet also one where you will grow the most. Thank god you still have you aunt around at least. You will make new friends, don't worry. They might not be the same kinda people you used to hang out with though. White America is competitive and bureaucratic... different. Mind you, beware of Yellow Fever, aka: white guys who love asian girls because they are exotically asian.
  • aihh i wish im back at school. enjoy dahling! :) make us proud! ;)
  • oh babe... read your newest post. just wanna give you a hug. been thru it and it sucked a lot. my heart really goes out to you... when tingang first left, it was for four years too.

but it'll be all over in a flash... just as you lived your last two years. be strong :)
  • The bloody tap water must be overloaded with chlorine. Tipping of 10% to 15% of the bill is the practice there, that's how the waiters earn their living.
  • hi pinkpau. I commented earlier on #35 but I feel like commenting again because u're such a sweetie for replying everyone's comment! :)

Im sorry to have read your most recent post, I know it must be difficult. I was in your position too, only this time, I was the only leaving NY while he's still there (he lives there permanently). It sucked big time....and it still sucks. I dont know what else to say, because like you mentioned in your post, no words can describe how you feel. Hang in there, because time heals the pain. Know that when u're thinking about him, he's thinking about you too. Look forward to classes each day and keep yourself busy with schoolwork. Plus, columbia and nyc is so much fun. Don't idle yourself. Go out, take a walk, go to central park, take a subway down chinatown and eat yummy hongkong noodles at Wonton Garden, go shopping at 34th st/5th ave......u get the drift. Keeping yourself busy is the best way to forget about the pain.

Speaking of shopping, I realized you mention about having to walk alot in your campus. Here's a tip.....go buy a pair of ballet flats from ALDO. They will be yr best friend. I tried many many ballet flats but the most comfy ones are from ALDO. I bought one at ALDO at 34th & 5th for about USD 39 on sale, and it was the best investment EVER! :)
  • For buying online, you can get a debit card too from any bank. that would be good enough.. :)

On books, yeah, it is very very expensive over there... Guess after semester, you can sell it (although it only bring you back very little money)...

When you buy at half.com, do take care of the international version. If you accidentally got it, then you can't get it sold for much online (unless you cheat others)... i got cheated once by some unethical people...
  • ooh, I buy most of my books from home! or sometimes amazon or ebay :)

In London, the tap water tastes weird, I filter it before drinking!
  • hahahahahaha

    pp's makcik so cutes one.
  • Hi pinkpau's makcik, can we send sea mail through Pos Malaysia (Post Offices)? If not, any good recommendation? Thank you!!!
